#1 · Best Carry-On FitTortuga Travel Backpack Lite 40L
★★★★★4.4(147)
One-bag travelers
Buy on Amazon ↗ A 40L carry-on travel backpack in 630D CORDURA nylon with YKK zippers. A separate compartment holds a laptop up to 16 inches.
Why buy it: Picture a week-long trip with one bag: the front-loading opening works like a suitcase, and the hip belt takes weight off your shoulders. A separate laptop compartment fits up to 16 inches. Among the backpacks here, it is the full-size 40L option. The catch: it is expensive and has fewer ratings than the others.
Pros, cons & who should skip it
It holds 40 liters and measures 22 x 14 x 8 inches, within carry-on limits.
Pros- Comfortable carry system
- Easy packing
- Durable materials
- Carry-on size
Skip it if: You want a cheaper pack

#2 · Best ExpandablePeak Design Travel Backpack 45L
★★★★★4.3(518)
Travelers who want a bag that adjusts
Buy on Amazon ↗ A 45L expandable travel backpack with tuck-away straps and a laptop sleeve up to 17 inches. Check airline limits when expanded.
Why buy it: Picture a trip that grows: expand the pack when you shop. The luggage pass-through and hidden carry straps help in transit. Among the backpacks here, it is the one that expands. The catch: it is the most expensive of the three, and an expanded 45L may not fit every airline's carry-on limit.
Pros, cons & who should skip it
It expands from 35 to 45 liters and has rear and top access.
Pros- Expandable size
- Weatherproof shell
- Flexible carry options
- Large laptop sleeve
Cons- Highest price in this guide
- Expanded size may exceed airline limits
Skip it if: You want the cheapest option

#3 · Best BudgetOsprey Daylite Expandable Travel Pack 26+6
★★★★★4.7(1,401)
Short trips and day use
Buy on Amazon ↗ A 26-liter travel pack that expands to 32 liters. It is a personal-item size, not a full week-long pack.
Why buy it: Picture a short trip where you want to skip checked bags: the AirScape back panel keeps your back cool. Two bottle pockets and a tech sleeve help. Among the backpacks here, it is the smallest and cheapest. The catch: it is a personal item size, so it carries less.
Pros, cons & who should skip it
The main compartment expands by 2 inches to add 6 liters.
Pros- Low price
- Rated 4.7 on Amazon
- Expandable
- Light
Cons- Small for longer trips
- Basic carry system
Skip it if: You pack for a week or more
